I notice that as time passes more and more girls are playing tackle football. As America’s favorite sport, tackle football has always been seen as a sport for males. People have always been skeptic about boys playing football, let alone girls. In a sexist world, as our present time, females are considered “weaker than boys,” and “more injury prone.” Even though that might biologically be true, that doesn’t mean they can’t play football and that most definitely doesn’t mean we can’t be just as good or even better than the boys; Because of these statements most of America thinks girls are “not fit to play football.” I personally disagree. The way girls are being treated is wrong and someone needs to do something about it, and I’m not the only one that feels this way; Tami Maida, Jennifer Welter, Sam Gordon, Katharine Anne Hnida, and plenty of other girls across the US think the exact same thing as I do. Girls are being mistreated, and underestimated. Girls all over the world are wanting to play football, but don’t have the courage to face all the sexist comments; But I and 1,916 other girls do have the courage to play.

At first I was a little skeptical about playing, but watching these feminist idols all over the nation take the football field by storm inspired me to be apart of this revolution. Football has made me gain confidence and if other girls learn to ignore all the sexist and discriminating comments out there, more girls will start to play in the future. This movement of girls playing tackle football started 37 years ago with just one girl named Tami Maida, and then developed into a nation-wide movement with almost 2,000 girls playing. There is a rising number of females playing football. All 1,917 girls currently playing football is apart of a movement that fights stereotypes. We are showing to the world that girls are NOT weak and we are NOT fragile. We are just as strong as the boys and we are perfectly capable of dominating the football field. We are just finishing what Title IX started.
